Think of the time when you have received congratulations on your first job offer. You’ve accepted that offer and are now ready to start working in an organization. Here are some important things you must know for making your first day a success.
1. Arrive a few minutes (30 minutes) early- Be punctual - before time
This will show your manager that you’re eager to start working and enthusiastic about your job. Its good to start early to avoid delays—you don’t want to get caught in traffic on your first day.
2. Be polite, courteous and smile
You’ll probably be introduced to many different people on your first day. Be professional and polite and don’t worry if you can’t remember everyone’s name right away. This will come with time. But give it a try every day.
Acknowledge each person you meet as worthy of a personal greeting. This is especially important for you at all times. Listen attentively and wait before you speak. Learn something from everyone you meet. Resist the thought to provide instant answers...think and then answer !!!
3. Take notes as much as possible
Don’t be shy about keeping track of all the new information you’ll learn on your first day. When in doubt, take notes to make sure you don’t forget any important information from your new colleagues and boss.
4. Try Understanding Organizational Culture on your first day at the new job
Organizations are like human beings and have a culture and a few customs to go with it. A good way to begin is to understand the mission and vision statement of the firm. Understanding the culture helps in understanding the work environment and expectations from your profile.
